DESCRIPTION: Provide leadership and management oversight of process development initiatives for the Company’s portfolio programs from IND enabling stage to marketing applications. In collaboration with the VP of Global Technical Operations, the Technical Operations leadership team, project leaders, and other key stakeholders, this position is responsible for translating business and project initiatives to appropriate technical plans and implementation of process development approaches for the company’s pipeline. Implement plans with either internal resources and/or in conjunction with contract manufacturing organizations (CMO). May participate in the development of corporate and/or organizational policies which may include the authorization to implement such policies. This position level provides general direction to and review of manager level personnel in various functional areas and/or teams. Works on abstract problems across functional areas of the business, identifies and evaluates fundamental issues for major functional areas through assessment of intangible variables. Erroneous decisions may have impact on the success at the functional and/or program level. MAJOR DUTIES OF POSITION: • Develop and implement technical operational plans aligned with strategic business objectives to support the development of the product pipeline. • Works on abstract problems in conjunction with other functional areas to identify and evaluate fundamental issues through assessment of intangible variables. Erroneous decision will have serious impact on the overall success of the functional operations and/or project plans. • Maintain a broad understanding of all portfolio programs to provide technical guidance from a process development perspective to project teams and/or as the lead Technical Operations project representative. • Must be able to effectively align individual project deliverables with overall CMC strategic objectives to avoid and/or minimize conflicts. • Maintain detailed familiarity with literature and scientific developments in drug development, CMC and process development to effectively provide guidance to resolve and troubleshoot technical issues at the department, project, and corporate level. • Effectively interacts internally and externally with management personnel to influence and/or negotiate technical decision-making. • Overall responsibility for planning and budget implementation for functional area. Develop appropriate project budgets for process development. • Provide support and process development expertise to Regulatory Affairs group for submissions and annual reports. • Ensures functional resources are aligned to meet the business needs including hiring, training and development of staff to make certain technical capabilities stay abreast of the latest technologies. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: • PhD in life science with 10+ years’ relevant industry experience and at least 5 years experience in a strategic leadership and management role, preferably at the senior manager or associate director level. • Previous experience in a strong operational role; Larger company experience preferred • Extensive knowledge and expertise in process development – considered an expert in his/her field. • Proven ability to translate business objectives to effective technical and operational plans and successful implementation of such plans. • Demonstrated ability in synthesizing information to make critical decisions in a timely manner as well as develop short and long-term plans. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to build positive work relationships across functional lines and to motivate employees.
