This role is crucial in delivering the next generation of operational capability required to meet business and operational strategies. The L3 DBA will perform standard operational roles including supporting, upgrading and maintaining the database fleet, whilst also providing feedback on the health of the environment and assisting in executing change-related work to the production environment. You will be responsible for: Developing and maintaining solid relationships with Operational leads, Engineering leads, business users (service consumers) and the wider global IT team providing first-class relational database management systems support involvement in DR (Disaster Recovery) testing and execution if / when required ongoing upgrade and maintenance of database versioning ensuring optimum performance and availability of Database systems in a proactive manner driving proactive capacity management for the database fleet driving proactive performance and availability for the database fleet participation in scheduled weekend work if / when requested Mentor junior staff To be successful in this role you will have: ability to work independently and remotely from the core DBA team a strong, dynamic character, capable of dealing effectively with colleagues and business users the ability to troubleshoot and consistently resolve Database issues the ability to thrive off autonomy and to be adept at seizing and acting upon opportunities. customer focused proactive mindset drive to own and resolve problems delivery and accountability focused natural collaboration skills self motivated Experience requirements: A minimum of 5 years of relevant DBA experience An ADVANCED level Database Administrator, with a strong skill-set in at least 2 from Oracle, SQL Server or Sybase (as detailed below). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Oracle strong Oracle 10g and 11gR2 database skills advanced experience in using RMAN and DataGuard use of Automatic Storage Management (ASM) in a replicated SAN environment Oracle RAC skills would be considered highly advantageous skills in Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) Oracle database upgrades and application of quarterly Oracle CPU/PSU patches SQL tuning and monitoring via AWR or tuning/diagnostics pack SQL Server strong SQL Server 2005 and 2008 skills knowledge of SQL Server mirroring, Windows and/or Veritas clustering some SQL Server replication skills exposure to SQL Server Reporting, Integration and Analysis Services would be considered highly advantageous Sybase Strong ASE 12.5, 15.0 and 15.5 database skills Sybase tuning using MDA tables Sybase Replication Server and/or Sybase IQ skills would be considered highly advantageous General strong verbal and written communication skills strong RedHat Linux, Windows and/or Solaris skills scripting skills in Perl and/or Powershell/ Unix Shell knowledge of ITIL practices demonstrable experience with change management processes and procedures knowledge of the Remedy trouble-ticketing system experience in monitoring and alerting with such solutions as BMC Patrol, Oracle OEM, Microsoft SCOM experience with Microsoft or Veritas Clustering as well as SAN/disk replication products DR (disaster recovery) planning and testing Forensic troubleshooting skills Structured performance analysis and tuning (wait event focused) Comfortable with SAN concepts, IO design and analysis" | |||||
