"Job Overview: PURPOSE: Responsible for achieving sales goals (in dollars and volume) selling value added solutions in assigned account base. RESPONSIBILITIES: CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP BUILDING: Establish client as a long-term supplier at accounts by developing, maintaining and expanding strong customer working relationships at multiple levels and functions. Utilize both direct contact, and relevant trade organization events to build relationships. SALES BUDGETS: Participates in development of annual sales budget targets for assigned territories. Strives to meet budget objectives, and takes appropriate action to achieve and/or exceed sales budget target. ACCOUNT MAINTENANCE: Ensure that appropriate resources and actions are recommended to address customer-based issues including competitive threats, product and service complaints, information discrepancies, etc. Review on a frequent basis sales and volume numbers to insure there has been no business lost or margin erosion. SALES TERRITORY STRATEGIC GROWTH: Pursue and support long-term divisional growth through the development of overall strategies for assigned sales territory. Identify and recommend new technologies and new market opportunities related to customer base. PRODUCT LINE, CAPABILITIES, & COMMODITY MARKETS KNOWLEDGE: Possess and acquire product line/capabilities/commodity market knowledge as well as knowledge of client's broad technology base. Continually strives to develop and update knowledge base via on-going training and education. PRICING: Execute customer-pricing programs against sales market- and customer-based pricing policies and procedures. Communicate pricing changes that would improve effectiveness in obtaining divisional and territory objectives. Work with Sales Director to provide competitive price quotes that will maximize sustainable growth and profit return to the assigned customer base. PROJECT GENERATION AND MANAGEMENT: Identifies and develops project opportunities with assigned accounts. Initiate projects using appropriate procedures. Continually gathers pertinent information to allow the Commercial Technology Team to successfully achieve project objectives. Lead the progression of key customer projects by ensuring communication flow between customer and relevant cross-functional areas. SALES SERVICE: Attend and participate as appropriate in customer based visits to our facilities and/or client personnel visits to our customer’s facilities including plant visits, scale-ups, R&D seminars, R&D work sessions and HQ visits. Prepare and communicate visit objectives, necessary legal agreements and an agenda to the appropriate participants prior to the event. Lead event follow-up steps and communicate as warranted. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Provide assigned Customer Service Representative(s) with guidance on the needs and expectations of key/specific customers to ensure high quality service level. Provide forecasting assistance from assigned customer base. Assist where appropriate in resolving customer-based complaints. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering or Processing, or related scientific field. • 3-5 years experience in a technical/R&D role in a food company • Demonstrated experience selling value added solutions across a variety of products/technologies with an industrial ingredient manufacturer, in Foodservice, or with a Distributor. • Ability to work across multiple functions, such as R&D, Operations, Quality, Commercial Accounting. • An ability to integrate R&D, marketing and sales efforts within key customer organizations to bring about sales and to maximize business performance. • A proven record of taking ownership of issues and orchestrating resources to meet a goal - a true entrepreneurial spirit.
