Subject: Position: Automotive Strategist- Shanghai/Beijing Sandra Wang posted a job: Position: Automotive Strategist- Shanghai/Beijing "Client Summary: Our client is a worldwide leading automotive manufacturer. The role will be working in its new R & D Center in Shanghai or in Beijing Job Description: - The spectrum for function grading and job content is wide and will depend on the associates personal and professional skills. The aim is to hire one junior and one senior strategist. - The junior strategist would be involved in the project management (running a small PMO) and consolidating diverse inputs from technical experts. - The senior strategist would be involved in mapping potential strategic R&D topics to the existing and growing R&D environment of China with regard to suppliers, universities and development service companies. Responsibilities: - Assessing and structuring R&D competencies in China of automotive and high-tech suppliers, R&D companies, OEMs & competitors, universities etc. - Analysis of competitors’ R&D strategies in terms of content (what will they develop in China), capacities (how many engineers are they planning), locations (where will they develop what) and organizational setups (in which organization (joint ventures, 100% foreign owned etc.) are they developing what). - Analysis of supplier base in China for R&D-companies - Analysis of state driven of public research funding to identify strategic R&D topics in China - Mapping the R&D competencies in China with company R&D strategy found in the business plans of the COCs. - Running the PMO for the strategy development team – for strategy development and strategy implementation. - Project management with regard to timing and board presentation. - Definition and preparation of work packages, documentation of results of work packages. Depending on competencies, taking ownership of one or two work packages. - Consolidation of results from work packages into an overall strategy. - Financial and HR assessment of the R&D strategy. Preparation of business case logic and capacity estimates. - Plan for the strategy implementation and rollout. - Coordination of university activities for EL-CN. - Coordination and preparation of presentations for external communication, conferences etc. - Setup, maintain and control multi project landscape of EL-CN across all departments. - Assist in consolidating the EL-CN position to strategic topics of HR- and budget-planning. Requirements: - Knowledge of high-tech or automotive product development process (PEP). - 10+ years experience in automotive or high-tech industry in China. - Proven track record of long term engagements (3+ years with one employer) to show that the candidates contribution to his/her work has been fully implemented. - Knowledge of strategic development areas driven by Chinese authorities and universities to implement the current five-year plan. - Knowledge of product portfolio, product strategy and differentiating competencies. - Experience in strategy development. - Communication skills to work in a large and networked environment.
