Steve Koch has started a discussion: Are you too old? Identity theft? Why exactly are some IT recruiters asking for PPI (Private Personal Information)? "I receive emails and phone calls from IT recruiters about 3-5 times a day. So I would like to think I've seen it all. But recently, I've noticed more recruiters including a list of information they want you to provide, much of which isn't required to pass you on to their client. So why exactly are recruiters asking for information like your DOB and Last four of your SSN? My bank is the only other organization that asks me for this, so what is a recruiter going to do with it? My concern (having a network security background) is that this information is going to be used to steal my identity or the recruiter will see a candidate's age and not submit them because they are too old. Below is an excerpt of a recent email I received from a recruiter I have never spoken with before: Requested Details: Name as per SSN: Mobile: Email id: Skype Id: DOB: Rate: Current Location: (City, State): Availability: work authorization- details: Willingness to re-locate: Last 4-digits of SSN: Total years of experience at USA : Total IT industry Experience: Academic qualification- Bachelors\Masters\Equal ( Years of Pass ): 3 Professional US C References(Recent 3 PROJECTS) Reference1: Name: Position: Email: Number: Reference2: Name: Position: Email: Number: Reference3: Name: Position: Number: Email:" | ||||||
