Senior Java Developer – Investment Risk Systems in Toronto, ON Canada Senior Java Developer – Investment Risk Systems – permanent role Must have either solid risk (market, credit or trading) or solid capital markets experience and excellent communication skills. Senior Java developer with Agile experience. Position Description We are presently recruiting for a Senior Developer. This role is responsible for executing the technology strategy for the Investment Risk Management department. As part of this strategy, the individual will be involved in driving the Greenfield implementation of the Risk platform. The successful candidate is responsible for designing, coding, testing, debugging, releasing, and supporting systems, applications or solutions to meet the evolving needs of the client. The core technology set includes Java, Unix and Oracle. Other skills like .NET will be beneficial. The Senior Developer role requires a motivated individual who is a serious coder and an Agile Development evangelist, client focused, innovative and results oriented. It demands a high performer who can take ownership of a task and remain a team player. Role Specific Accountabilities: Build custom systems leveraging strong Agile Development practises in Java. Deliver quality design and implementation using robust development practises. Ably work with team members and business to build creative and innovative solutions to business problems. Helps coach team members on Agile Development & technical skills. Assists in raising the technical bar within the team. Understands change requirements in the context of the business and existing solutions. Able to take nebulous issues and distil them to actionable tasks and deliver them through sprints. Designs any changes to enhance/extend the existing architecture or revamping it where appropriate Codes and tests the changes with an eye towards support and maintenance. Works with business users and/or QA to verify the correctness of changes Releases the changes using SDLC best practices Provides responsive assistance to business partners when doing level II support Position Requirements If you possess the following, we’d like to hear from you: Computer Science/ Engineering/Physics /Math degree with experience as a core technologist. 10 years development experience in Java building N-tier systems with 3+ years experience in practising solid Agile Development Principles. Experienced in Java/Unix/Oracle. Microsoft/.NET technologies will be beneficial. Understanding of Capital Markets and in particular, understanding of Risk/PnL reporting would be beneficial. A strong desire to learn more about Capital Markets is a must. Provide responsive business assistance while adhering to processes required for quality enterprise- level software development and support Expert knowledge of software development "best practices" and patterns.
