Role : Server and Data Center Engineer Location : Allentown, PA Duration : Contract to hire. JOB DESCRIPTION: The candidate will support the implementation of new blade server technologies, including Data Center planning related to racking and stacking equipment, in-row power and cooling, and connectivity planning associated with installation of such equipment. The successful candidate must possess a solid understanding of server products, with a strong preference toward experience with HP blade servers, and be able to troubleshoot and resolve software, hardware and configuration issues associated with the blade server platforms. Primary Responsibilities and Requirements • Work in a team environment to engineer a standard portfolio of blade server solutions and services to meet client’s business requirements, requiring problem solving with little or no assistance and supervision. • Engineering, design, testing and operational turnover of HP blade server solutions. Technologies include HP x86blades, HP Integrity blades, blade chassis and VCEM. An understanding of boot from SAN, chassis-integrated network switches, general IP networking and Fiber Channel networking also required. • Investigates new blade server features, defines product roadmaps and develops strategies for implementing features within the client’s infrastructure. Investigates new in-row power and cooling technologies and develops strategies for implementation within the client’s infrastructure. • Assists in project management activities by contributing to the development of project plans, estimating work, task scheduling, cost/benefit analysis and progress reporting. Assists supervisor and team leads by recommending project resource needs, I,s., technical staffing, customer involvement, equipment, etc. • Assists in the cross-training of other team members on technical tools and new technologies. • Builds partnerships with internal customers and collaborates with vendors, consultants, and other ISD personnel, often assuming a leadership role. • Committed learning and strives to increase relative skills and knowledge required for position. Keeps informed of the latest developments in information technology. Is committed to continuous improvement of the technologies, support services and processes being delivered to support the Corporation’s IT needs. Basic Qualifications : BS or BA in computer Science, Math, Engineering or Other Technical Field; or non-technical BS/BA with 6 or more years of relevant IT experience. Additional Qualifications: • Experience designing and supporting blade server solutions. • Experience with HP blades, VCEM, in-row power and cooling, a plus. • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills. • Six (6) or more years’ experience communications regarding complex subjects to individuals and with groups, including senior management. • Effective oral and written communications regarding complex subjects to individuals and with groups, including senior management. • Ability to effectively summarize issues, options and recommendations. • Ability to perceive relationships among problems and issues; to analyze and synthesize information; to devise alternative solutions to resolve problems. • Effectively conduct meetings and interviews with customers, consultants, contractors, and peers.
